The NSW Government, together with the Australian Government, is responding to current issues and preparing for a range of fuel supply scenarios.
We have agreed to the National Fuel Security Plan to coordinate a consistent national response. The plan is guided by four levels of action:
- Plan and prepare
- Keeping Australia moving
- Taking targeted action
- Protecting critical services for all Australians
We are currently at level 2, Keeping Australia Moving. There are some voluntary measures we can all take to help reduce fuel demand, in combination with actions the NSW and Australian governments are taking to manage supply and distribution.
We encourage everyone to stay informed and plan ahead for the Easter and school holiday period. There is no need to change or cancel your travel plans.
NSW’s immediate challenge is distribution and demand pressure on liquid fuels. Everyone can play a part to make sure fuel continues to get to those who need it the most:
- Buy what you need, when you need it – no more.
- Stockpiling fuel in unsafe or inappropriate containers can be dangerous.
- Download FuelCheck, which provides information on fuel prices and availability at service stations.
The Australian Government has announced temporary relief for businesses unable to meet their tax obligations due to fuel supply issues. To find out more, visit:

We have prepared a communication toolkit to help you raise awareness about fuel security. The toolkit contains key messages and easy-to-share social media resources.
