This is a crucial time to remind all Australian Citizens aged 18 and over that the federal election will be held on Saturday, 3 May and there is support available to individuals, including those from multicultural backgrounds, to understand how to cast a valid vote. A range of translated resources is available to support this, which includes
- Official guide on how to vote (translations in 34 languages).
- How to make your vote count (translations in 34 languages).
- A Practise voting tool (translations in 12 languages).
- Translated information explaining how to complete ballot papers is also available at polling places, and some locations will have bilingual AEC staff available to help
- Bilingual spokespeople available for media interviews in Amharic, Cantonese, Hindi, Mandarin, Macedonian, Punjabi and Spanish to explain the voting process
The second key message focuses on early and postal voting options for those unable to vote in person on 3 May. The main points to keep in mind are
- Voters who can’t visit a polling place on election day may be eligible to attend an early voting centre or apply for a postal vote
- People voting by post can apply online. Applications must be received by 6pm Wednesday 30 April – so act quickly to ensure enough time to receive, complete and return your ballot papers
We have a full media release available in this online folder in 15 languages, including Arabic, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Croatian, Greek, Italian, Khmer, Korean, Macedonian, Punjabi, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
